We are happy to announce the “Web standards and technology study group to foster Good media and Media Literacy in the general public (WGML) / 良質なメディアと一般市民のメディアリテラシーを支援するWEB標準技術研究会” is established under Keio University Cyber Civilization Research Center.
Leading by Professor Jun Murai, this Working Group aims to research and develop web standards and technology to foster good media and to build media literacy among the general. It is also a collaborative project with Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and Journalist Trust Initiative.
RSF is the world’s biggest international NGO specializing in defending media freedom and safeguarding the right to freedom of information. Journalist Trust Initiative is the subsidiary body of RSF desiring the development of the technology framework and its practical deployment harmonized with standardization, and generating indicators for the trustworthiness of journalism, which thus, helpt to promote and reward compliance with professional norms and ethics.
This working group serves as the core body in the Japanese community, to improve the positive circulation for the media ecosystem and to enhance the sustainability of the future society with respect for healthy information democracy.
