Overview

The new AI framework, which leverages large-scale parallel processing and vast accumulated data, is expected to drive significant efficiency gains across various societal functions evolving with digital transformation (DX) as a prerequisite. AI can make highly accurate recommendations based on recorded human experience and knowledge. As a result, it has begun to make substantial contributions to fields that require specialized expertise and complex processes, such as software development and digital content creation.

Among these fields, healthcare and medical care are where AI’s contributions are most anticipated, and concrete examples of its applications are beginning to emerge. AI is expected to bring significant transformations to medical research, healthcare delivery methods, and health management systems. It can enhance the efficiency and accuracy of medical systems, accelerate diagnoses, enable secure sharing and utilization of medical and health data, and facilitate personalized preventive healthcare and the effective use of Personal Health Records (PHR).

At the same time, the introduction of AI raises various societal and ethical issues, including secure data sharing, privacy, intellectual property, data bias, fairness, and accuracy. Addressing these challenges requires more than just applying AI to individual specialized fields. Instead, a comprehensive approach must be taken—encompassing the internet, data centers, cloud infrastructure, data distribution, and AI algorithms. It is essential to establish a framework that enables collaboration between medical professionals, industry stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to promote an “AI-driven Medical DX effectively.”

The Cyber Civilization Research Center at Keio University has held three previous seminars, bringing together experts to share cutting-edge insights on robotics, AI, big data utilization, and next-generation business models supporting healthcare and medical care’s  digital transformation.

In the fourth seminar, medical professionals and AI engineers will collaborate across academic and industrial boundaries to share knowledge and develop a comprehensive perspective. Through these discussions, we aim to explore a vision for addressing societal challenges in wellness, healthcare and medical care.
